Aurora Orchard Manor

Special needs catered for

Orchard Manor offers a supportive living and learning environment for young adults who have severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties resulting in complex learning needs.

Specialist facilities

Situated in the village of Meldreth, just ten miles south of Cambridge, on the Cambridgeshire/ Hertfordshire border, Orchard Manor provides a home for young adults in a warm and friendly environment.

We have a number of on site residential flats. Every room is large and wheelchair accessible and can be equipped with assisted technology where required. Every flat has a large kitchen where you are able to get involved in preparing meals. There is also a large lounge for you to relax and socialise with your flat mates.

The site itself has a large Skills Development Centre where the majority of onsite day time activities take place. Within the centre there is an adapted ICT suite, adapted kitchen, sensory room and art room. The site has a large amount of hard and soft outdoor space which you can use all year round. We also share the onsite Hydrotherapy pool and Rebound therapy facilities with Meldreth Manor School.

Support services provided

We are CQC registered and offer flexible 52-week residential placements for young adults aged 19+ years old and specialise in supporting those of you with complex health needs. For those of you who require it we offer 1:1 support throughout the day. Our support workers will work with you using a number of techniques to allow you to express your likes, dislikes, wants, needs and dreams to ensure every day at Orchard is awesome.

Our multidisciplinary team will work with you to build on your strengths and develop new skills and interests, helping you to explore ways to reach your full potential. Listening and understanding to what you want is at the core of everything we do at Orchard, because we want you to feel you are learning, growing and living the life you want at all times.

General environment

Life at Orchard is very varied and never boring. No two days are ever the same. Each of you will work with our team to create a personalised individual programme which can include a variety of activities depending on what the desired outcomes are. If you’re looking to develop key life skills, the Skills Development Centre runs a variety of sessions including cooking, personal appearances, shopping and ICT.

For those of you looking to develop your social skills we have a number of sessions where you can try new activities and make friends. With our close connections with the surrounding community, a number of residents utilise off site facilities and activities such as horse riding, rock climbing, cinema, shopping and college courses. Other sessions at the Skills Development Centre include personal appearance, sensory storytelling and art.

Our multi-disciplinary team can also integrate wellbeing sessions into your timetable such as physiotherapy, rebound therapy and hydrotherapy to improve your physical wellbeing. We also understand that for some of you with communication difficulties this may be an area you are keen to develop. Our on-site Speech and Language Therapist can work with you to build your communication skills and help you with any assisted technology you might currently be using or suggest new solutions.

At Orchard there are a number of social enterprises on site such as our weekly cake sale run by one of the young adults. We are also in the process of setting up voluntary and work experience opportunities at Orchard, The Aurora Group and local businesses in the local communities.

In the evenings after an action packed day, you can either head back to your flat to relax in your room, socialise with your flat mates in the communal areas, or you might decide to head into the local village or neighbouring town.

Aims and philosophy

We have a simple role at Orchard Manor. It’s to make your life awesome. Now that word ‘awesome’ will mean something unique to each and every one of you, which is why we offer completely personalised supported living and care to meet your needs.
