Sunfield School
Special needs catered for
Severe and complex learning needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Specialist facilities
10 houses each provide a home for four to six students. Each house has a dedicated team of qualified and experienced staff led by a Team Leader and every child has their own Key Worker. Sunfield has numerous facilities within its parkland site including: a purpose built school, a farm and horticultural areas, nature trails, an adventure playground, a superb sensory integration suite, sensory rooms and outdoor specialist sensory play equipment and trampolines. A fleet of vehicles allow our students to enjoy a wide range of community based leisure activities.
Support services provided
Sunfield’s total communication approach under pins students’ learning and development. A structured waking day curriculum provides routine and a learning environment in which students flourish and achieve. This is supported by an onsite Psychology and Therapies Team offering integrated therapies including: occupational, music, play, speech and language, and sensory integration therapy. Our dedicated Psychology and Therapies Team includes Clinical and Educational Psychologists.
When students join us they undergo a comprehensive three-month assessment and a personalised plan is then put in place covering learning, care, therapy and health targets.
Home school links
Sunfield has a Family Services team that monitors contact and offers support, training and advice, including a sibling support programme. Two family centres offer fully equipped flats where families can stay overnight enabling them to have meaningful, family focussed time with their child in a supported environment. We also have a visiting suite for those families who do not require overnight accommodation.
We meet regularly with families to celebrate achievement and outcomes and review plans and targets.
General environment
Sunfield is set in 58 acres of parkland on the edge of the Clent Hills looking out over the Worcestershire but only 12 miles from the centre of Birmingham and close to main railway and motorway links. The grounds themselves contribute to the therapeutic process and general air of freedom, as well as providing scope for games and other outdoor activities.
Aims and philosophy
At Sunfield we recognise each child an individual with unique contributions to make. We operate a total curriculum approach which is led by team who are highly skilled in care and education.
Sunfield School’s reputation is built on almost eighty years’ experience of caring for young people with specific learning and development needs. It is constantly evolving to provide the most advanced levels of support that are currently available. Students follow a co-ordinated individually tailored programme of learning structured throughout their waking day which is supported throughout by our multidisciplinary onsite Psychology and Therapies Team. The Team has constant communication with all our students in both group and one-to-one sessions and offer a wide range of integrated therapies.
Staff qualification and selection
Psychologists and Therapists have appropriate qualifications and many have undertaken further training to meet the specialist needs of Sunfield’s students.
