Ashcroft School

Special needs catered for

Ashcroft is an independent special school. We cater for children and young people aged 8 to 18 years who have struggled to cope in other settings because of their individual barriers to learning. At Ashcroft School we pride ourselves in working with each student offering a bespoke education package that really does meet their needs. We cater for pupils with complex emotional needs including social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Students may also have other difficulties such as school phobia, anxiety, depression, or have diagnoses of ADHD, foetal alcohol syndrome, acquired brain injury (ABI) or autism spectrum conditions (ASC).

Specialist facilities

We have wheelchair access and disabled facilities on the ground floor however some of the classrooms are on the first floor where there is currently no lift facility available. We have a number of specialist facilities which include sensory areas and an outdoor gym. We are also able to make use of facilities surrounding our campus which borders Bruntwood Park and is close to the Cheadle Pool and Sports Centre.

Support services provided

Ashcroft School offers students intensive personal support designed to help them reengage in education, manage their own behaviour and develop more positive relationships with others. This is achieved through intensive learning support which often delivered through a range of stimulating activities that motivate and engage students in ways that are not readily available in other settings.

Ashcroft School also has a range of specialist programmes available to its students which include:

• The Nurture Group • Play Therapy • Access Group • Vocational training for 14 – 19 year olds

Home school links

At Ashcroft School we believe one of the most important factors in educational achievement is consistent involvement from parents or carers. We are committed to developing home school links as we firmly believe in joint working with parents who are one of our most valuable resources. Staff work flexibly with students and can also provide education to students at home or in community based learning settings.

Aims and philosophy

One of the most important roles the school has is to re-engage students in learning. We aim to promote learning and positive emotional development through improving self-esteem and celebrating achievements. Our staff are experienced and dedicated, and they strive to ensure every young person that comes through our door reaches their potential, helping them to move forward into a happy and fulfilled future equipped with the skills they need to be able to cope with their chosen life path.

Staff qualification and selection

All staff will undertake an induction program which is assessed against national standards followed by an extensive programme of continuing professional development for all staff across the organisation with mandatory programme of training which is refreshed on an annual basis.
