General environment
The Greater Horseshoe School is an independent special school situated in a peaceful woodland setting near Newton Abbot in Devon. Our school facilities are complemented by our nearby care farm, where we offer animal care, horticulture and a wide range of outdoor educational activities alongside academic and vocational programmes, as well as ‘Musers’, our nearby music/music production/ICT facility.
The school is situated in an attractive traditional Victorian school building with modern additions. Our learning space includes an ICT suite, food preparation facilities, an art/DT studio and an outdoor therapeutic classroom. Our grounds feature a wildlife area with pond and beautiful yurt together with a fire pit.
Aims and philosophy
Our aim is to support young people to achieve positive outcomes appropriate to their needs. We do this by thoroughly understanding each young person’s circumstances and what we can do to best support them. We use our wide experience, flexibility and underpinning knowledge of child development to deliver personalised educational and therapeutic programmes that benefit every aspect of each young person.
Staff qualification and selection
At Outcomes First Group we make a real commitment to training and developing our staff. Our training is focussed on the needs of the specific services as well as the individual employee and the company. We recognise that training, learning and developing our staff is key to delivering high quality services and to the success of our company.
Our commitment is to guarantee that all employees complete mandatory, refresher and specialist training and have the opportunity to undertake developmental training opportunities.
