Waterloo Lodge School
Special needs catered for
• All pupils have an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP)
• The EHCP will specify the pupil’s special educational needs
• Pupils may have learning difficulties and/or low attainment that are associated with their special educational needs.
• Pupils may have specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia.
All children are subject to a period of observation and assessment in the initial ten weeks of their placement at the school.
This information contributes to the formulation of Individual Education Plans which are used for the monitoring and evaluation of pupil’s progress. Parents/carers and Local Authorities are kept informed about the child’s personal progress via termly and end of year reports and more comprehensively during the statutory annual review of the EHCP.
Parents/carers are welcome to contact the school, at any time to discuss progress.

Support services provided
Waterloo Lodge School is committed to achieving the best outcomes in improving young people’s emotional well-being.
At the start of the placement, an assessment is provided, which aims to provide an understanding of the young person’s challenges and strengths. This may indicate that a further assessment is necessary, for example speech and language, cognitive or neurodevelopmental assessment, and this can then be accessed.
In line with best practice evidence, we strive to offer a holistic therapeutic environment where young people experience relationships and a physical environment that best meets their assessed needs.
Consultation with an established team of professionals supports the consistent and therapeutic approach to education and is embedded in the structure of the school.
Should a young person require an additional individual therapeutic intervention, such as play therapy, a talking or creative therapy, or a speech and language programme, this is then considered
At admission, some young people may already be accessing additional therapeutic support which they wish to continue. Recognising the need for continuity, we are happy to liaise with CAMHS teams to provided connected support.
