Reddish Hall School
Special needs catered for
The school accepts pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs, though they may face additional challenges and diagnoses including ADHD, ASC, SpLD, MLD, OCD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Foetal Alcohol Syndrome or a variety of other conditions. Additionally, many of our pupils have serious social issues and very difficult home lives resulting in complex emotional difficulties. The majority of our students are on the autistic spectrum.
Specialist facilities
Specialist facilities/Curriculum At Reddish Hall School, we pride ourselves on our students receiving a broad and balanced curriculum, with opportunities to develop the skills and knowledge that they are interested in as well as ensuring that they leave with the personal qualities, skills and qualifications needed to progress into college, apprenticeships or employment. The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the child, taking into consideration that they may have gaps in their learning as well as the strengths they may have in other areas. Our Key Stage 4 curriculum provides a variety of options: GCSE’s in English Language, Maths, Science, English Literature, History, Art, Geography (from Sept 2020), and Computing, plus BTEC’s in Sport, Health and Social Care, Food and ASDAN. We also aim to support the social and emotional development of our children, with an emphasis on extended learning in music, outdoor education, Duke of Edinburgh and other options that they may be interested in which help them develop interpersonal skills and hopefully broaden their choices post-16.
Support services provided
We have a dedicated school counsellor who works both individually and in groups through a variety of techniques including play therapy, draw and talk as well as working with families in pre-therapeutic work. Speech and language and occupational therapists are brought in to support, advise and assess when required by a pupil. We also work alongside existing therapists to ensure that consistent language and approaches are used.

Aims and philosophy
Reddish Hall School intends that all pupils leave with the necessary social, academic and vocational skills to be mentally healthy and happy in the wider world. The school’s curriculum is designed with flexibility in mind, so we can adapt to meet the needs of individual children as far as possible, ensure they can access a broad range of subjects and experience learning in a wider context, thus preparing them for a demanding and rapidly changing world.
Staff qualification and selection
The vast majority of our teaching staff are experienced teachers who have worked in multiple settings, often including other SEMH/ASC provisions and mainstream. We proactively support teaching assistants who wish to progress onto a teaching career and any member of staff who becomes an instructor undertakes a teaching qualification.
Our teaching assistants have often had experience previously in working with complex young people in either care or education settings. We look to support their careers development and encourage them to undertake professional qualifications.
