Specialist facilities
The Sheiling School is a unique school. We believe in an integrated approach to education, care and therapy, while being committed to strong academic progress. Our adapted curriculum provides an incredible range of activities for pupils. We have 50 acres of beautiful and peaceful parkland, an indoor swimming pool and our own purpose-built therapy building onsite. Staff also place a strong emphasis on developing pupils’ creativity with a wide range of arts and crafts activities such as painting, woodwork, handwork, weaving, pottery and baking.
We are one of the pioneer providers of the Outdoor Curriculum, utilising and developing Bushcraft. This offers a therapeutic and educational programme to children and young people who are hard to reach and who may have experienced difficulties with a more formal approach to education and rigid timetables. This approach has been very successful with children and young people experiencing behavioural difficulties, who have been out of school for long periods of time or who have found it difficult to adapt to a classroom setting.
Support services provided
The Sheiling School can provide pupils with a wide range of therapies which enhance both the educational and the personal development of the child in a holistic way:
- Speech and language therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Music therapy
- Eurythmy (a specialised movement therapy)
- Rhythmical Massage

Staff will follow the Steiner Waldorf Curriculum which includes all areas of the National Curriculum and which also brings together elements of academic, therapeutic and independence skills. The school will ensure that education, care and therapy staff work closely together to encourage and support pupils to meet and hopefully exceed their educational potential. Staff will endeavor to create a home environment based on mutual care and respect, which nurtures the healthy development of each pupil, helping them to build independence, life, self-help and social skills.
